I was going through some games, and I came across one which had an extremely exciting and complicated position. The game was between former Chinese Super GM Ni, Hua (Left), and Vietnamese Super GM Le Quang, Liem.
Going back to the position before move h5, your move is to find the winning combination for Black. Take your time, because it’s quite difficult; probably an 8 on a scale of 10 :).
Black to move. Good Luck!

The answer is …(deleted to avoid being a spoiler)… I am a kid that is 11
Hello Vishal,
The answer you have provided is in the right direction. However, it’s a bit incomplete as Black still has to play some moves to force a mate, or decisive material advantage. Good work so far!
ng5? im too tired to figure out the rest, but i feel like that’s the start
Hi Alden,
It’s a tough one; so take your time. Ng5 is incorrect. Think about forcing moves such as Checks. G’luck!
Yeah ok that took some time to work out 🙂
Nice work Bee, just removed the notation as to not spoil it for others 🙂
I think the answer is bxf3 because you are forking or attacking both rooks at the same time.Is this correct?
Hey Aarush,
Sorry for my late repsonse.
Bxf3 looks like a good move, especially since it forks the Rooks, but the problem is that White is threatening mate on h7.
So, Black has to play a series of forced moves – Like checks.
Okay…I’ve thought quite a lot about this and here’s what I think the answer is it goes 1…Ba3+ Kxb3 2. a1=Q Rxa1 3. Qxb6 Bxb6 4.Nd4+ Kc3 5.Rxc4 5.Kxc4 Rc8#. It took me about 2 weeks to get there and I’m still not sure of it.
Hey Siddarth,
You found all the right moves and motifs – the second move has to be 2.a1=N+, however.
It’s essential to keep giving checks, as promoting to a Q would allow White to give mate on h7.
Good job!
